As Engineering Manager you will take responsibility for the management, Supervision and motivation of our entire Engineering team, including PAT, EICR and Fire teams, expediting our delivery of client contracts. You’ll work closely with your Supervisors to ensure your team provides the very highest level of Customer Service and technical quality, whilst completing works to maximise profit and protect Health, Safety and Welfare of clients, staff, and the public.
- Oversee the Engineering Team. Recruit, select, train, lead & motivate Engineering staff, providing support and guidance to ensure team members work to their maximum potential, in line with Company Policies, Procedures and Management System
- Work as part of the Senior Management Team to achieve internal targets including company growth, profit, and customer satisfaction, and develop a positive and healthy culture within the company
- Address any employee issues within your team, including the need for training, re-training, formal conversations, and first stage grievances or disciplinary action, in accordance with company employment regulations & ACAS.
- Support the Directors and the wider company, to maintain technical standards, in adherence to the requirements of NICEIC and HSE. Identify changes required to Engineering & H&S procedures and keep Senior Management Team & all staff informed of relevant changes.
- Prepare contract specific and generic RAMS to current applicable legislation. Ensure dynamic onsite risk assessments are completed and mitigation measures are implemented.
- Take responsibility for the productivity and financial targets of the department. Manage and report on engineering output to SMT. Identify measures to increase productivity and communicate to Engineering staff. Work with individual engineers on site to improve productivity through training and mentoring. Monitor & measure effectiveness of initiatives
- Carry out on site quality audits (QA) to a planned programme and to meet the requirements of our Company Management System, with further one-off QA as required to ensure the quality of engineer’s output. Monitor & measure results and report to SMT.
- Assist the Office Manager/ MD with Complaint Management. Investigate, QA, report and provide advice on all technical/ HS aspects
- Recruit engineering resources to meet the company’s requirements. Carry out interviews as needed. Induct new recruits and provide them with every opportunity to succeed including a minimum of 3 month’s mentoring. Carry out informal reviews monthly and full appraisal on completion of 3rd month. Advise MD of satisfactory completion of probation, or request formal extension/ termination
- Ensure that all staff have the correct qualifications to carry out their role in a professional manner. Identify training requirements and opportunities for discussion with the SMT. Ensure renewal of qualifications.
- Identify and engage with potential new sub-contractors to meet the company’s requirements. Induct new sub-contractors. Ensure quality of works and adherence to Service Level Agreements, company policies, processes and safe working procedures of all sub-contractors, as if they were directly employed engineers.
- Manage the assets of the department. Ensure all equipment is maintained to a high standard & calibrated prior to being signed out. Maintain accurate & up to date records of equipment issued and calibration. Manage supply of uniform, PPE, labels & small stock items. Keep records of issue.
- Offer clients advice and support on technical and H&S aspects related to our work. Carry out pre-works meetings, site surveys and visits to produce programmes of work.
Qualifications:
- EAL Level 3 (Requirements of Fire Detection & Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings BS 5839-1:2017), C&G 2391 or equivalent, with C&G 2382 18th Edition, and C&G 236 Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year’s Fire Services and 5 years’ experience working as an electrician. Previous BAFE/ NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor experience an advantage.
- Full clean driving licence
- Health & Safety qualification i.e. NEBOSH, IOSH or similar preferred

The Elec Group are expanding our team of engineers and require additional Fixed Wire Test Engineers throughout the country.
You should have a recognised electrical qualification and City & Guilds 2391 with solid experience delivering a quality service to clients and possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail and great communication skills. A good understanding on the use of Shine’s NICEIC reporting software is preferred.
This role is for a home-based engineer, with travel from site to site. Some staying away from home will be required. Vehicle will be provided so you must hold a clean, full driving licence and be at least 21.
